This lake is just two hours outside of Covington near St. Martin Parish. It’s a classic Louisiana swampland and is part of Cypress Island Nature Preserve. On the lake, there are a number of local birds- and you might even spot some alligators!
Cane River Lake
About three-and-a-half hours outside of Covington, Cane River Lake sits right off of the Red River. It’s surrounded by history – both historic districts and large plantations. This lake is perfect for canoers and kayakers.
An hour-and-a-half drive from west from Covington, you’ll find False River. Don’t let the name fool you – this is a 3,200 acre lake that is home to deep waters and tons of campsites. Come here with your boat to enjoy angling and aquatic sports.
Hodges Gardens State Park
If you’re up for a road trip in your Chevrolet, then make the four-and-a-half hour drive from Covington to Hodges Gardens State Park. This park offers boating and fishing and is home to beautiful plants and flowers.
Lac de Allemands
This lake is situated an hour-and-a-half outside of Covington in the bayou. It’s a shallow lake, but sports canals, bayous, cypress swamps, and plenty of wildlife!
